As the parent of a Type 1 Diabetic, I have put together this site a way to share my experience with other caregivers. My child was diagnosed at the age of 12, and is now a young adult college-athlete. After years of needing an outlet for all of my joy, frustrations, anger, sorrow, etc., I have put this site together.
I am not the perfect mom of a diabetic. I am a small business owner, I work a lot of hours, and quite frankly, I did not have time for this diagnosis. I have accepted that there is no choice in that now LOL. Now, in addition to still working full time, I spend hours researching and learning – and I still feel like someone who is uneducated about this disease.
After being a part of several groups about Type 1 on social media, I just got tired of the perfect moms. The ones with all the answers, whose children are rocking an A1C of 6.5. The ones who have obedient kids, know the exact carb counts of every meal. I’M NOT THAT MOM. I try, but man I just can’t be that person. My kid yells back. She’s bratty – even as an adult. No one prepares you for the non-compliant Type 1.
So, I invite you to read along, share my story and experience, and most of all to let you know if you are having trouble with the 24-7-365 forever, you aren’t alone. Hopefully you can get a laugh on some days when you realize how out of control my household can get. Because, quite simply, it’s Crazy T1D.
